Accessible Cyprus for people with disabilities

Archways of dripping bougainvillea petals greet visitors when they open the garden gate and step or wheel themselves into this quite unique tourist resort.

C & A Tourist Apartments in Polis boast the first ever tourist accommodation in Cyprus designed to cater for those less able-bodied folk.  All rooms are fully equipped for disabled visitors.

At the Apartments the swimming pool is heated and it can be entered by means of a hoist.

ACCESS TO THE SEA

A wheelchair accessible ramp was installed in Cyprus at the C.T.O Polis Camping Site Beach in May 2004

The project was undertaken by the Polis Municipality and allows easy access for those with mobility problems such as wheelchair users or persons using a walking aid.

It is also suitable for mothers using pushchairs and in the heat of the summer, walking on the hot sand can be avoided.

It is a 20 minute ride by electric wheelchair or power scooter from C & A Tourist Apartments or just 3 minutes by car.  Be aware that the beach is very pebbly.

The owner of this complex –Chris (also known locally as ‘The Wheelchair Warrior’, a name given to him by the local newspapers)  is a wheelchair user himself, and knows only too well what is needed for people with a disability, by drawing from his own experiences.  So if you have the need to explore this area, and would like to be adventurous, and try the possibilities available to you, then why not stay at the apartments and experience the warm welcome that awaits you.

You can go on a boat excursion around Akamas bay.  The boat has a hoist so the wheelchair user can also go for a swim in the sea.

There are also specially adapted minibuses on site that can collect you from the airport or even book one of the many excursions available to you around Cyprus.

WALKING BY THE COAST

A wheelchair accessible walkway was constructed on the edge of the beach stretching 2km from Polis Camping Site Beach all the way to the fishing harbour of Latchi.  This is a 30 minute leisurely ride by electric wheelchair or mobility scooter, and it is level all the way.

MORE, MORE, MORE

Activities locally include para-sailing, banana ride, inflatable boats, scuba diving, u-tubing, jet skiing, ten pin bowling and much more. Many of the activities are available for people with disabilities, so that they too can have some fun in Cyprus.

WEDDINGS IN CYPRUS

Of course, we should not forget about the beautiful weddings that can be arranged at C & A Apartments, around the clear blue pool. This could also include having your reception catered for, flowers, etc to make your day even more special.  The weddings for wheelchair users are hosted by the Polis Municipality
