It may have been nearly three months ago since my friend Davy and I first
set
foot in delightful Cyprus, but by no means have our blissful experiences
there largely credited to the staff and wheelchair friendly amenities at C&A
Apartments - faded from memory. In fact,
the reason it has taken me so
long to
submit this posting is that I have been flat out busy with life in general
and
while I wanted to convey our appreciation at the exceptional service we
encountered at C&A Apartments- I had to find more than a fleeting moment to
rightly do deserving justice to the great rapport that they built with us.
During our one week (trust me, in retrospect one week is definitely not
enough
time) stint at the superior C&A apartments we were provided with a clean,
well-equipped and comfortable deluxe apartment to happily return to every
night.
Perhaps our habitual reluctance to leave the luxuries of our air-conditioned
room every morning– even with beautiful, sunny Cyprus sitting on our
doorstep –
accounted for our new reputation as Chris’ latest rising (a.k.a. “laziest”)
guests.
Moreover we were not only provided with a luxurious roof over our heads but
-pleasantly surprised at the genuinely warm hospitality we received – as our
new
room became our new home in all senses of the word.
From Chris’ first welcoming yet efficient e-mail reply to my zillions of
annoying pre-departure queries it was apparent that signing off as our
“Cypriot
Friend” carried more substance than some marketing ploy. His sincerity and
helpfulness were immediately evident even without the guarantee of our
business
-as he went around the town looking for and arranging alternative wheelchair
accessible accommodation for us upon discovering that his apartments were
booked
out within our proposed dates of travel.
Fortunately a last minute cancellation was in our favour as a room at Chris’
became available enabling us to book our stay after all and meet the rest of
the
family.
There was Chris’ father Andrea (the driver of C&A Apartment’s wheelchair
accessible shuttle-bus) an absolute character, whose concern about our
having a
great time, together with his passionate and knowledgeable commentary about
everything Cypriot made him a wonderful tour guide to accompany us on our
Cypriot road trips - be it on the way to the airport or into the beautiful
pine
covered Trodos Mountains.
Then there was Eva (Chris’ mother) who would happily attend to our every
request as though we were family staying in her home. Even though Eva
secretly
won me over anyway, when she made me my first Greek coffee, as an aside she
was
also a wonderful cook. Davey and I were repeatedly invited to join in their
family meals - lucky to sample many a delicious Cypriot delicacy (authentic
and
delicious food not typically found on tourist menus). We were even
privileged to
partake in the whole ‘dipping-our –bread-into-the-salad-bowl-part’ in order
to
mop up the oil at the bottom – which every Cypriot secretly knows is the
best
bit!
There was also Chris’ brother in law (another Chris), Anu
and Chris’ nephew
Andrew who were always on hand to help me get Davey’s wheelchair out of the
car
however late it was; and the delightful Dimitri, Chris’ younger and cheekier
nephew who quickly made friends with Davey like he was his younger brother.
Last but not by all means least there was Chris himself. Nothing was too big
a
problem for him. He would always be going out of his way to organise things
for
us – car hire, finding a suitable wheelchair that would fit into our car,
uploading our photo’s onto his computer and then burning them onto a CD for
us,
advising us on the must see sights, shouting us a drink, inviting us to go
out
for dinner. He even voluntarily drove and accompanied Davy and I to
Aphrodite’s
Rock Pool for a daytrip. It was times like this I would forget that Chris
was
the manager of the apartments we were staying at because he felt more like a
friend, in fact in lieu of our lousy correspondence post-Cyprus we hope we
are
still privileged enough to call him a friend.
Essentially that was the atmosphere at Chris’. It felt like we had been
invited
into someone’s home for the week and in fact the only time it really hit us
that
we were staying at a hotel set-up was when it came time to pay the bill and
from
Chris’ body language it was clearly evident that this was the part he hated
the
most. This was no money making venture, Chris was working for the love of
the
job and the people he was meeting.
Still at the end of the day the accommodation was in-fact a bargain and we
were
only more than happy to pay the bill as an expression of our sincere
gratitude!
The apartments are located in a great village away from the touristy hustle
and
bustle synonymous with places like Paphos, yet with great road links to all
the
must see places. As mentioned before the accommodation is superior and
accessible but by far the highlight at C&A Apartments is the excellent pool
and
because Chris has modified it with a hoist, there is no excuse for anyone
not to
be able to unwind, soak up the Cypriot sun and enjoy the ambience of just
passing leisurely days in Cyprus just floating around |
