Dear new Pathways,
We recently went to Polis, Cyprus and stayed once
more at the magnificent C & A Tourist Apartments
www.ca-tourist-apts.com.cy and were once again bowled over by
the extreme the family has gone to in providing such a haven for
mobility impaired clients.
They have built a new extension which houses
extremely spacious one and two bedroom apartments sleeping 2 to 5
people. They have interconnecting doors with separate kitchenette
and roll in shower. There’s a large dining area in the main entrance
of the building if you didn’t want to go totally self catering.
They do fantastic breakfast and evening meals, BBQ/Greek nights on
site.
The rooms are brilliant, very wheelchair friendly
with lots of room to manoeuvre. The level access, roll in shower
rooms are enormous, with wall mounted, fold up shower seat, grab
rails for dressing and steadying yourself, and grab rails at either
side of the toilet. We hired an electric hoist and wheelie commode
to suit Pete’s needs. They have left nothing out.
There’s a lift to the first floor big enough for
a mobility scooter. The interior doors are all extra wide, no
worries about getting in and out of the apartments.
The twin –bedded rooms are lovely and spacious,
loads of cupboard spaces and lights switches at a convenient
height. I’d definitely consider going in the winter months as they
have central heating throughout. On the other hand, all bedrooms
have optional air con (payable locally). There’s a sofa bed in the
lounge as well as remote control colour TV.
The kitchenettes have double hob, fridge and
microwave as well as the usual utensils, pots and pans.

The pool is crystal clear and scrupulously
clean. There is a fixed hoist to help the less able bodied to get
in the pool.
Also may I recommend Monarch Airline, who were
magnificent. I emailed and spoke to them months ahead of travelling
and explained everything in detail about how I would need bulk head
seats, that Pete was a carry on/off passenger, and that he had to
stay in his own wheelchair, right up to the point where he entered
the aircraft. I explained that in the past the wheelchair had been
damaged by other company’s and that it was our main concern.
The staff from the check in to the ground crew
that helped lift Pete onto the plane. The stewards and the
stewardesses on board, and the assistance that waited for us both at
Larnaca airport on our arrival and our departure airport, and again
when we returned to the UK….full marks go to Monarch for being
wheelchair and disabled friendly. I must stress that you must
communicate in good time with whoever you are flying with as
otherwise they cannot be expected to help with your needs at a
moments notice, it works both ways and Monarch were amazing for us.
CA Taxi…better still was the fact that, as
promised, Andreas from C A Taxi’s was waiting or us when we got to
the airport. He helped with the bags and was ready and waiting to
help Pete on board his wheelchair accessible taxi.
